Planning: Production roles

Editor
The editor is a person who is in charge of and determines the final content of a film. The role of a film editor is to select and combine shots into sequences and ultimately create a finished motion picture. They create transitions and effects that create tension upon the audience. The whole process is called film editing. In my group Khaled has taken the role to be the editor as he understands the transitions between all the scenes and what effect they should have.

Producer 
Is a person responsible for the financial and managerial aspects of the making of a film or broadcast. As the preproduction process begins, the producer and the director should work closely together and collaborate about how the production process and the entire scope of the film should take place. The producer and the director must share a common goal; to make a picture that they both believe in. And therefore Khaled took on the role of being the producer for my music video as I worked closely with Khaled to ensure we were both sharing the same views

Camera operator Camera operator is a photographer who operates a movie camera. I also took on the role of being the camera operator. It was my job to record moving images for the film with instructions given by the director. My work involved setup and positioning camera equipment, planning and rehearsing shots and working closely with other technical departments such as lighting and sound. I have chosen this role as I am able to fully operate and function the camera as I have a wider range of understanding.






Director 
The director is the person responsible for the interpretive aspects of a stage, film, or television production; the person who supervises the integration of all the elements, staging and lighting required to realise the writers conception. A film director must have a comprehensive understanding of all the aspect of film production and therefore I took on this job role. 






Lighting OperatorA lighting operator is a person who creates lighting to complement the stage, set or location within a theatrical or film production. They ensure the correct lighting is used in each scene that is presented to the audience to ensure that they get the right response from the audience depending on the theme. For Example in our music video we are going to use low key lighting as it doesn’t reveal much about the surrounding to the audience. Benjamina took on this role as she is skilful with lighting as she has experience from drama. This allows her to have a wider range of understanding of the various emotions difference lights can have on the audience members.

Location manager 
The location manager is a member of the film crew responsible for the finding and securing locations to be used, obtaining all needed fire, police and other governmental permits, and coordinating the logistics involved for the production to successfully complete its necessary work. They find the suitable location needed in a film to suit its genre and the themes that take place within it. I also took on the role of being a location manager as I have an understanding of what takes place within the gym due to being very sportive, therefore we believed this role would best suit me.

Costume & makeup artist

Make-up Artists are briefed by Chief Make-up Artists, who provide them with detailed notes, character and scene breakdowns, and if necessary reference pictures about the characters they must create. They prepare and change the actors into the shoes of the characters they need to play depending on the characteristics of the character, the time its set and the age. In our thriller Benjimina took on this job role as she’s got experience in this field she can put into the thriller.

Storyboard organiser:  Is the person who creates the narrative on a storyboard, which illustrates a brief idea of what is going to occur in each scene. It includes the number of shots, actors (characters), the form of editing, the dialogue that takes place and the duration of each shot. This role is extremely important, as the amount of detail produced within the storyboard will allow the filming process as well as the editing to be much quicker. This enables the group to be more efficient. Khaled and myself decided to share the workload on this role.  

Print organiser and photographer: This role is extremely important, as it is essential within the promotion process of our final product. The person who takes on this role is required to take all the necessary pictures for the digipak and the advert and organise and edit them to ensure it appeals to an audience, which increases the success level of the final product. I took on this role, as I was capable of operating the camera and had the knowledge of what was expected by our target audience in order to appeal to them.
